 New pan European vehicle and driver database goes live.
Following successful trials last week, an internet-based European database of documents relating to vehicles, drivers and the movement of goods by road was rolled out across UK, Belgium, France, Germany and Holland.
The Traffic Documentation System (TDS) is intended to provide a further tool in the fight across Europe against those involved in all forms of illegal activity including terrorism, smuggling and forgery. It will enable a police officer at the roadside using a laptop to tell whether a foreign driving licence is genuine and whether other documentation relating to a load or vehicle is in order |
