The Department for Transport has notified FTA that it has adopted a new interpretation that removes drivers who never carry goods or passengers in the course of their employment from the scope of EU drivers' hours Regulation 561/2006.

This should offer benefits to members who employ mechanics/fitters if they never carry goods when driving a vehicle to annual test. Truck rental companies should also benefit from this new interpretation.
